Lets enjoy what we have today ...

Take a good look at the picture. If for some bizarre reason it does not look familiar, mark my words, it soon will. This is A. R. Rahman - the Indian song writer, music composer, and singer beyond compare.

Rahman (he goes by his last name) recently won the Golden Globe for a couple of musical categories (part of the movie Slumdog Millionaire) at the recent award ceremony. This is his very first international recognition and believe me, there is more to come. Along with the movie, Rahman's lyrics and musical compositions have been nominated for the upcoming Oscars. He is sure to win his maiden Oscar as well this year.

At the Golden Globe, after receiving the award, the first word that he uttered was "Unbelievable"! This moment took a long time coming but it finally came. Indians have a long and rich tradition of music, and Rahman has mastered its beauty and depth. Not only that, he has expanded his musical palette with the best that the world of music has to offer - from classical jazz, to hip-hop, western classical, Latin, and Sufi. His creativity and flair are second to none. The diversity of his compositions is amazing. Just when you think you've figured him out, he comes up with something totally fresh and inspiring.

Upon his return to India after winning the Golden Globe, a reporter asked him about how he felt his chances were with the Oscars. His simple reply was - "Lets first enjoy what we have today and leave the Oscars for later". A short and simple sentence but one with amazing depth. In life, we often keep chasing one dream after another, seldom stopping to cherish and enjoy what we have today. Well, lets slow down a bit and take time to enjoy our accomplishments - personal, social, and professional - whatever they might be. This time is never going to come back, so soak this moment!
